CSC Presents 'Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike'
The Chadron State College Theatre Department will perform "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" by Christopher Durang Feb. 14-17, in Memorial Hall's Black Box Theatre. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m. The free production is recommended for audience members 13-years-old and up. Tickets are not required but theatregoers are encouraged to reserve seats at csc.edu/theatre.

Simpson Excels at Speech And Debate Tourney in Missouri
The winning continues for Simpson's Speech and Debate team. The debate team defeated 18 other colleges and universities to take top honors at the Missouri Mule competition, hosted Oct. 19-20 at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. The combined Speech and Debate team finished second.

Nearly 300 students from 12 high schools in three states will converge on the Chadron State College campus Wednesday for the 28th annual Theatre Day. The schedule includes 12 workshops presented by 20 CSC theatre majors.

The College Fellow is awarded to a limited number of outstanding junior or senior students who ar e selected each year by the faculty. Recipients are to be of exemplary character, possess an overall cumulative grade point of 3.3 or better as well as a cumulative grade point of 3.5 or better in their major. A Fellow may tutor or teach under the direction of the departme nt chair, and holds rank just below that of the college Instructor.

Chadron State College presents 'Stop Kiss'
The Chadron State College Theatre Department will present "Stop Kiss," a play for mature audiences by Diana Son, at Memorial Hall's Black Box Theatre Thursday Nov. 16 through Sunday Nov. 19. Evening performances on Nov. 16-18 for "Stop Kiss" begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday, Nov. 19, matinee begins at 2 p.m. "Stop Kiss" won the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Award for Best New York Production, and Son, who has also worked on several television shows, earned the Berilla Kerr Award for playwriting. According to Son, "Stop Kiss" is a play about the civil rights of gays and lesbians in America and she describes the play as a love story.

Social Work students host successful conference
A diverse panel featuring a forensic examiner, an attorney, a Salvation Army Outreach Coordinator, and a sex trafficking survivor all contributed poignant facts and emotional accounts to the annual Chadron State College Social Work (SW 435) conference Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the Student Center Ballroom. The conference, "Not for Sale: Sex Trafficking in Nebraska and Surrounding Areas," featured presentations from Hollie Strand, Federico Vicente, and Joseph Smith, two performances from CSC Theatre students, and a moving video detailing sex trafficking and sexual abuse from "Kelly," a woman who survived sex trafficking. The difficult subject matter did not deter attendance. Professor Bruce Hoem, who mentors the senior Social Work students who organize the conference, said more than 250 people attended.

Theatre department opens curtain on performance year
The Chadron State College theatre department started the school year's performances with "Charley's Aunt" by Brandon Thomas, performed Thursday Oct. 5 through Sunday Oct. 8 in Memorial Hall's Auditorium. "Charley's Aunt" featured Victorian-era Oxford students Charley Wykeham and Jack Chesney as they recruit their wealthy playboy friend, Lord Fancourt Babberly, to impersonate Charley's Brazilian aunt, Donna Lucia, to chaperone a double date the pair have planned. Unbeknownst to the trio, Jack's father happens to be after Donna Lucia's fortune and the real Donna Lucia has come to town undercover to check up on her nephew.

Local students graduate from Fort Lewis College
In a ceremony on Saturday, April 29, 2017, more than 400 Fort Lewis College graduates and their families packed Whalen Gymnasium for Fall Commencement. The speaker chosen to offer the Commencement Address was Kevin Gover, director of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
